Holstein Canada is proud to sponsor young leader events across the country that help facilitate the training and development of young Holstein enthusiasts. Holstein Canada not only financially sponsors different events, but many Holstein Canada staff are involved and provide support.
Holstein Canada is proud to sponsor the following Young Leader events:
Canadian Classic 4-H Junior Dairy Show: The Classic, held annually at the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair since 1979, brings 4-H youth from across the country together in an atmosphere of spirited competition and sportsmanship.
Western Canadian Classic: The Western Canadian Classic (WCC) is hosted each year in British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, or Manitoba. A total of 100 young adults and youth between the ages of 12-21 take part in many competitive activities, including clipping, judging, showmanship and conformation classes, a dairy science quiz and a stall competition. The purpose of this competition is to provide an opportunity for dairy youth to improve their skills in leadership, teamwork, citizenship and public speaking.
Ontario Agricultural College Judging Club: The Ontario Agriculture College Judging Club is a group of students who meet biweekly to enhance their judging skills in various areas. The Club focuses judging on three main categories: livestock, crops, and home crafts. Judging includes standard classes such as dairy, beef, and grains, as well as uncommon classes such as llamas, pigeons, and even manure based on nutrient value. The Club meets as a group in Guelph and the surrounding area, but also travels to Quebec twice a year to compete in judging competitions with teams from Quebec, Alberta, and Nova Scotia. Members of the Club have a passion for judging and believe it significantly improves confidence, rational thinking, and public speaking skills.
Atlantic Young Breeders School: The Atlantic Young Breeder School has the purpose to help producers aged 18-30 develop their business skills in a classroom and barn setting using visual presentations, practical and theoretical workshops. This is a great opportunity to network with fellow Dairy enthusiasts. Topics covered throughout the weekend include; Marketing Your Herd, Evaluation of Production Records, Genetic Evaluation Interpretation – Genomics, as well as Herd.
Dairy Sen$e Program (Ontario & Manitoba): At Dairy Sen$e, you will learn the impact of management decisions on a farm’s bottom line, gain invaluable management skills from some of the most successful dairy farmers in Ontario, find out the key elements of a succession plan, and network with other young dairy farmers. Attending Dairy Sen$e will give participants insight and knowledge that they can bring back to their farm. Each year brings new speakers, tours for participants, and a chance to win a trip to the World Dairy Expo.
